1st Annual Student Art Show

The Birmingham Feline Fanciers first feline art show was held in conjunction with the cat show in January 2008. High school students to entered paintings of cats (see Letter to Art Teachers). Our theme for the 2008 show was “Show Time”.

All feline art entries were judged and the winners received ribbons and prizes. Three experts in the field of art judged our feline art entries including  Darious Hill - Alabama School of Fine Arts, , Jan Stephens-Visual Arts Supervisor, Jefferson County Board of Education and Kristen Greenwood - Birmingham Museum.

As for the prizes, we had donations from The Summit, Alabama Art Supply, Forstall Art Supplies, Home Field Sports Grill,  Richard Russell Gallery and  anonymous donations.

We are very excited about our feline art show and are hoping to encourage more people to fall in love with cats by broadening our audience.

Art Students,

The First Annual Birmingham Feline Fanciers Art Show featured the art of 22 High School students from Jefferson and Shelby County High Schools. See (Artist Entry Form). The requirements for entries were as follows:

All works must be 2-dimensional in any medium. They can be mounted on a single matt board or single matted (optional). Nothing thicker than one half inch and no frames.

All works must be 18 x 24 inches or smaller

All works must have a theme involving cats

All works need to be accompanied by an artist biography, which should include artists aspirations and a little bit about the artist.

One entry per artist

All entries were sold or included as part of a club raffle with proceeds going to Birmingham Feline Fanciers (BFF has donated over $170,000 to feline charities).  Prizes were given to top entries. They were judged by a team of local art experts. All accepted entries received a ribbon and two tickets of admission to the show. The art show was held at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center on January 26th, 2008. It was held in conjunction with the Birmingham Feline Fanciers Cat Show. Over 1200 spectators viewed the cats and feline artwork.
